My art is an expression of my spiritual life

The artwork creates it self once the concept is in place.  My painting has been greatly influenced by Buddhist paintings and sculpture, prompting me to create conceptual pieces that lead the viewer past the mundane toward a place of stillness. Sometimes the imagery is driven by sound or mantra.

The pastels are landscapes of places I have frequently traveled. Largely the backwaters of Karela and moments in time fromTamil Nadu both in Southern India.

I work mainly with oil paint, pastels and sometimes encaustic on a always on a field of black. Working from dark to light creates almost a stain glass window effect evoking a sense of inner peace. This technique also has a hopeful effect: color and light emerging from pitch black not a blank canvas but full of depth.

My hope is to infuse the viewer with a moment of single pointed focus.
