Left: Outer Disturbances No. 1, 36 X48″

Outer disturbances is an oil portrait of the Buddha and his adopted mother Maya. His birth mother died at birth. Therefore we see that suffering can not be avoided. In this portrait, although there are many spiritual forces or beings behind nature present, they can not stop the green bird from grabbing the conch shell offered by the Deva. Her intention is good. The lama prays in the upper left and the wish fulling jem tree is blooming on the right. An ordinary chicken is in the foreground near Maya’s feet. What might happen next?
